Admissibility Requirements

Applicants must be admissible to Canada, meaning they have no criminal record, serious health issues, or security concerns that would prevent entry. Background checks and medical exams are required.

Application Process

Applying for the SUV Program involves several steps, from developing your business idea to submitting your permanent residency application. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

Develop a Solid Business Idea.

Create a comprehensive business plan outlining your innovative concept, market analysis, financial projections, and team qualifications. Ensure the idea is scalable, globally competitive, and capable of creating jobs in Canada.

01

Secure Support from a Designated Organization

Research designated organizations (venture capital funds, angel investors, or business incubators) to find a match for your industry and business focus.

Pitch your business idea to secure a Letter of Support and, if applicable, a Commitment Certificate. Each organization has its own process and criteria for evaluation.

02

Gather Required Documents

  • Letter of Support from the designated organization.

  • Language test results (CLB 5 or higher).
  • Proof of settlement funds (bank statements, financial documents).
  • Personal documents (passports, birth certificates, marriage certificates, etc.).
  • Business documents (business plan, incorporation details, etc.).All documents not in English or French must be translated and certified.

03

Submit Your Application

Apply online through the IRCC Permanent Residence Portal (referred to as the Start-Up Business Class).
Pay the application fees (approximately CAD $1,810–$2,385, depending on family members included).
Ensure all team members submit their applications simultaneously if applying as a group.

04

Optional: Apply for an Open Work Permit

If your business will provide significant economic benefit to Canada, you may apply for a three-year open work permit to start working in Canada while your permanent residency application is processed.

Requirements include an Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR) from IRCC and proof of being an essential team member.

05

Processing and Approval

Processing times are approximately 31–51 months, depending on application volume and completeness.
You may be asked for additional documents or an interview during processing.
Upon approval, you and your family receive permanent residency status.

Tip: Use the IRCC document checklist to ensure all required forms and documents are included. Incomplete applications may be returned.
